Born
and educated in the Fair City of Perth, Scotland, Donna Minto has been
a music specialist in Scottish schools for over twenty years. Her career
began in the early '80s in the Orkney Islands in the far north, where
she taught both on the mainland of Orkney itself and on the smaller
islands. She used to love the early morning flights on the small aircraft,
occasionally having to be diverted on account of fog closing in and
once having to land in a field whilst lying on her stomach in the luggage
bay holding shut a door which had blown open! Marriage to her husband
Ken took her to the Granite City, Aberdeen, in the North East of Scotland
where Donna teaches music in a number of primary schools. For several years, Donna was also a lecturer in Music at the University of Aberdeen's Faculty of Education, where she was involved in the training of both primary and music specialist students.
Throughout her career teachers in schools have regularly
approached Donna to request suggestions for songs relating to various
projects their classes have been covering. Frequently finding a lack
of relevant songs led Donna to begin composing her own. These were met
with enormous enthusiasm by both pupils and teachers alike! Pressure
from colleagues over many years that these songs should be made available
to a wider audience has led to the creation of Notable Songs by Donna
and her husband Ken (with a little help from their friends!)
These song packs have therefore developed out of practical
classroom experience. But, as the saying goes, "the proof of the
pudding is in the eating", and so we have included comments sent
to us by a number of our customers as we feel the best judges of the
quality of the materials are those who actually make use of them. Click
